Clinton N.C.

This is the 443.075+ 100 PL N4JDW repeater at the tower site in the outside cabinet. It was a Motorola Quantar™, but is now a Kenwood TKR-850 Repeater with plans to move into the building. It has a frequency agile link radio that is on the Raleigh system.

This is the Decibel DB-636 / 6 db gain antenna side mounted on the north side of the tower. The 12 element UHF yagi (under the microwave dish) is up 250 feet pointed to the Raleigh area. The Sampson County tower is located in the Taylor Bridge community south of Clinton. The Linking abilities include other repeaters on the Carolina 440 Link System and the PCRN Backbone.

Here is David, N4JDW beside the 1-5/8 inch feed line that was used on the tower.

The Clinton repeater is located in the Taylors Bridge community off of Hwy 421 South of Clinton on the Sampson County Tower; it was placed in service in 2005.  The Amateur antenna system is at 480 feet on the North side of the tower with an expected coverage of 35 miles out with a mobile. This picture was taken while it was under construction.

Winabow N.C.

Here is David, (N4JDW) at the site of 444.175 and Paul Magnabosco(AD4HZ) and Paul Knight (W1ILM)installing the new Carolina 440 repeater in Winnabow.  A view to the southwest of the tower at 875 feet. The intended coverage area is Brunswick, Bladen, Horry, and Columbus counties, significantly expanding the Carolina 440 UHF Link System coverage from north and west of Wilmington well into northeast South Carolina. I believe the problem with the New Hanover County coverage is strongly related to the position of the Channel 26 and 39 feed lines (6+ inches OD) in the interior of the tower.  Both are inline with the west tower leg and Wilmington, making it difficult for signal to radiate cleanly in the easterly direction.  It is possible that those feed lines will be removed later on if the corresponding analog antennas are removed.  In that event, the coverage on the back side of the antenna will likely improve significantly, but we have the 444.075 at Porters Neck that covers Wilmington and New Hanover very well.
